The Full Diagnostic Psychoeducational Evaluation process provides diagnostic evaluations for adults, adolescents and children who may be having behavioral, emotional, learning, or adjustment problems. Individuals can experience difficulties in the classroom for many different reasons. To determine if learning, attentional, verbal, social, and/or emotional problems are interfering with functioning, a Full Diagnostic Psychoeducational Evaluation may be very helpful. Psychological and academic testing may hold the key in determining why a student is not finding success in a school setting. Emphasis is placed on identifying and clarifying problem areas and developing realistic goals.
The Full Diagnostic Psychoeducational Evaluation consists of a biographical data review, psychological, and academic testing evaluation and assessment, an interpretive conference and a written report. Dr. Joseph will work with you, your child or adolescent, and school personnel to obtain the answers needed to maximize their learning success. All evaluations are individualized to meet the student’s specific needs.
Cognitive Ability / IQ testing
Dr. Joseph employs state-of-the-art testing measures. Some of the cognitive/intelligence tests that may be used include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV).
Achievement / Educational Testing
Educational testing assesses academic achievement levels including reading, writing, mathematical skills and comprehension abilities to determine concerns in these areas. Among the testing measures that may be used are the Woodcock Johnson Third Edition (WJ-III) or the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition (WIAT- III), both of which are considered to be the gold standards in assessing achievement functioning.
Behavioral / Social / Emotional Testing
Instruments are used to evaluate for personality, social and emotional factors (e.g. Behavior Assessment Scale for Children, Second Edition (BASC-II)) as well as basic daily living and adaptive skills when appropriate (e.g., Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition).
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessment
When the referral concern involves issues of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, Dr. Joseph assesses symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents and adults using standardized and well-regarded measures of these concerns such as the Conners Rating Scale, Third Edition. Clients with this referral concern are evaluated for executive skills and functioning including attention span, self-control, working memory, planning and organizational abilities also utilizing the measures of ability and achievement listed above.
